Russia: Putin Approves New Foreign Policy Doctrine

Moscow, 30 June (RFE/RL) - Russian news agencies say President Vladimir Putin has approved a new foreign policy doctrine aimed at restoring Russia's global power status. The agencies say the doctrine focuses on the insistence for the development and maintenance of a multipolar world to counter U.S. dominance in world affairs. Putin has repeatedly promised to restore Russia's global influence. Earlier this year, Putin signed a defense doctrine broadening the Kremlin's authority to use nuclear weapons.

The agencies stopped short of providing any further details of the new foreign policy doctrine, saying that it is to be published next week.
