Kyrgyzstan: Bus Crash Kills 12 Kazakh Tourists

Bishkek, 22 August 2002 (RFE/RL) -- Kyrgyz police says 12 Kazakh tourists died today when their bus overturned near Kyrgyzstan's capital Bishkek. Police spokesman Dzholdoshbek Buzurmankulov told Reuters the accident happened early today near the township of Kant, some 30 kilometers from Bishkek. He said 15 people, including two in critical condition, were hospitalized.

It is not clear what caused the accident.

The bus with 49 Kazakh tourists was returning to Kazakhstan from Lake Issyk Kul in eastern Kyrgyzstan.
