Azerbaijan: Bush, Aliyev To Meet At The White House

Washington, 26 February 2003 (RFE/RL) -- U.S. President George W. Bush is scheduled to meet later today in Washington with visiting Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev (pictured). In making the announcement last week, the White House called Azerbaijan a key partner in U.S. efforts to combat terrorism, strengthen global energy security, and foster a just and lasting settlement to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The White House's written statement said the two countries are also partners in advancing political and economic reforms in Azerbaijan.

Russian media have reported that Aliyev arrived in the United States on 24 February.
