Afghanistan: Germany Says Three Soldiers Killed In Kabul Bomb Attack

Kabul, 7 June 2003 (RFE/RL) -- The German Defense Ministry in Berlin says a bomb attack in Kabul has killed at least three German soldiers belonging to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). A ministry spokesman also said another 10 people were seriously injured in the attack, including Afghans, and a score of people suffered lesser injuries.

Kabul police say the bomb attack occurred as the bus was driving near the German military base located on the eastern outskirts of the city.

ISAF spokesman Paul Kolken said the bus was hit in "a deliberate attack from a passing car." Kabul police say early indications are that the bomb was placed in a taxi driven by a suicide bomber.

The 4,600-strong ISAF force is responsible for security in the Afghan capital and is currently under joint German-Dutch command.
