Bosnia: NATO Peacekeepers Seize Tons Of Illegal Weapons

Banja Luka, 24 September 2003 (RFE/RL) -- NATO today said that NATO-led peacekeepers in Bosnia-Herzegovina have seized 120 tons of illegal weapons and ammunition in the past three weeks. Major Ron Carson, a NATO spokesman in Banja Luka, said peacekeepers deployed in northern Bosnia collected hundreds of land mines, thousands of grenades, nearly 700 rockets, thousands of mortar shells, close to 1,000 rifles, and large amounts of small-arms ammunition following tips from locals.

Carson said that most of the haul was found hidden in bunkers, caves, or fields in the Serbian part of Bosnia.
