Kyiv, 29 October 2003 (RFE/RL) -- Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma (pictured) fired Prosecutor-General Svyatoslav Piskun today after little more than year in office over accusations of abuse of power. Kuchma's office said Piskun was fired on a recommendation by a presidential anticorruption commission, which accused him of abuse of power and grave violations of the law. He had been in the post since July 2002.
One of the charges against him is that he forced a regional prosecutor to organize the delivery to Ukraine of 250 tons of unspecified merchandise from Russia.
