Tatar Official On Industrial Development
Growth in industrial production was 102.6 percent thus far this year compared to the same period in 1998, said Igor Rassman, the deputy director of Tatarstan's Industrial Companies Association told Tatarinform on 18 June. Rassman said mechanical industry reached the "most successful" growth rate over a year ago at 202.6 percent. It is reported that the KamAZ automotive works, the Chistay watch plant, the Kazan medical instruments plant, the Tatelektromash factory, and the YelAZ automotive works were the main contributors to such growth. Rassman acknowledged the continuing slump in output at former defense ministry factories in Tatarstan, admitting that "some of the enterprises were quite successful" in reviving production.
