Tatar Official Says No Shortage Of Dairy Products
Tatarstan's deputy minister of finance, Shevket Sungatov, told Tatarinform agency that the republic had "gathered sufficient reserves of dairy products for winter season of 1999-2000." Sungatov said that the republican government would ensure that people would be able to afford increased dairy prices this winter by increasing social payments for the poorer part of the population.

Militia Officers Poisoned By Powder In Chally
Three army officers were hospitalized after coming into contact with a bag of unidentified white powder in the basement of an apartment building in Chally, Tatarstan's press reported on 28 September. The militia squad was reportedly checking the premises of apartment blocks in Chally during an antiterrorist operation. The origin and chemical make up of the powder is being investigated.
