UN Security Council Extends Iraq Mission

The UN Security Council has extended the mandate of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) for another year.

In a resolution adopted unanimously on July 28, council members agreed to continue the work of UNAMI for a period of 12 months.

In its resolution, the council welcomed recent security improvements in Iraq, but stressed the need for further progress on humanitarian issues, human rights, and political matters.
