Sandbags and metal flood barriers keep the swollen Vltava River from overwhelming the Czech capital's historic center on June 4 after floods across Central Europe forced thousands from their homes and killed at least eight people. The flooding arose after several days of torrential rain. The 14th-century Charles Bridge, a favorite spot for tourists, remains closed. A riverside path that is below street level is still under water, but city authorities say the worst may be over. (RFE/RL)
