St. George Ribbon Campaigners In Kazakhstan Defend Victory Symbol

Activists distributing orange-and-black St. George ribbons ahead of May 9 Victory Day celebrations in Kazakhstan told RFE/RL the symbol was meant to honor World War II veterans and was outside of politics. The ribbon has recently been adopted by the pro-Russian separatist uprising in Ukraine's southeast. (RFE/RL's Kazakh Service)
