Unknown gunmen have shot dead a deputy mayor of the southern Afghan city of Kandahar, according to Afghan officials.
The Interior Ministry today said that Azizullah Zeyarmal was on his way to a mosque on April 19 when gunmen opened fire on him. Officials said that Zeyarmal died on his way to hospital.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The ministry said the attack was carried out "by enemies of Afghanistan," a term often used by Afghan officials to describe Taliban militants.
