Afghan security forces have detained three insurgents for helping organize a suicide attack on a UN compound in Herat last month.

Sayed Ansari, a spokesman for Afghanistan's National Directorate of Security, said one of the three detained men, Noor Mohammad, was responsible for transporting the four suicide bombers who carried out the attack from Quetta.

He also told reporters in Kabul "the attack took place under orders from Mullah Esmatullah Samangani, who is a current member of the Taliban's Quetta shura."

The four Taliban suicide bombers, dressed as police and women, struck the main UN compound in Herat on October 23.

All four were killed and there were no casualties among UN staff.
