U.S. Vice President Joe Biden says it is too early to judge whether a U.S. troop surge in Afghanistan is working.

Biden told a U.S. television station that the six-month troop surge would not be complete until August, making an assessment now premature.

Biden also described as firm the July 2011 date President Barack Obama has set to begin pulling U.S. forces out of Afghanistan.

U.S.-led troops in Afghanistan are facing rising Taliban resistance with June the deadliest month yet for foreign troops in Afghanistan.

A fresh ABC News-Washington Post poll shows 43 percent of Americans view the war as worth fighting.
