European astronomers say they have discovered a planet near a star of extragalactic origin, implying that it came from outside our own galaxy.
The Jupiter-like planet is part of a solar system that once belonged to a dwarf galaxy, which was in turn devoured by our own galaxy, the Milky Way.
The discovery was made using a telescope in Chile.
Planet hunters have so far discovered nearly 500 planets outside our Solar System using various astronomical techniques.
The latest discovery is detailed in the academic journal "Science."
