Moscow Police Detain Ultranationalists Over Explosions

MOSCOW -- Moscow police have detained a group of ultranationalists suspected of organizing dozens of explosions in the Russian capital, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.

The Russian Interior Ministry informed journalists on March 17 that the detained young men are members of the Against Illegal Immigration Movement and the organizations Slavyansky Soyuz (Slavic Union), Soprotivleniye (Resistance), and Russky Marsh (Russian March).

Investigators say they made bombs and that police found a significant amount of explosives and extremist literature in their possession.

According to law enforcement officers, the young men may have been responsible for more than 30 explosions in Moscow.

Police described the blasts as small explosions that caused some damage but no casualties.
