Russia Acquires Five Large Industrial Companies From Tatarstan

MOSCOW -- Russian holdings in defense industry companies located in Tatarstan continue to grow as Moscow gained five large companies in an agreement reached this week, RFE/RL's Tatar-Bashkir Service reports.

The Tatar government is transferring shares in the five companies to Rostekhnologii, a Russian state corporation.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin established the corporation in 2007. It is run by his close friend, Sergei Chemezov.

The agreement between the Tatar government and Rostekhnologii stipulates that a representative from Tatarstan be on the corporation's board and that Tatar officials be consulted about major changes.
