YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, Russia -- Fourteen Russian sailors trapped in icy waters near the Far Eastern island of Sakhalin were rescued today, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.
The Emergency Situations Ministry in the region told journalists that a rescue helicopter took the sailors from two fishing boats that were trapped by ice six days ago in Tolerance Bay.
They were brought ashore in good condition.
The boats remain trapped and will be brought to port after weather conditions improve.
