Tajik Pop Star In Hot Water

A member of Tajikistan's preeminent pop dynasty is in trouble.

Farzonai Khurshed, a household name in Tajikistan along with her sister Shabnami Surayo, who tops the list of best-selling artists in the country, was released on January 19 after a three-day detention for allegedly helping her fiance to flee his ongoing court trial.

The fiance, Farrukh Kuzyaevich, has reportedly been accused of forgery and is undergoing trial in a Dushanbe court.

Khushed’s mother, Surayo Qosimova -- who is also a well-known signer in Tajikistan -- says her daughter was unaware that the trial was going on when she left Dushanbe along with Farrukh.

The police eventually arrested the pop star and her fiance in the Varzob holiday resort outside the capital.

It still remains unclear how exactly Farrukh managed to elude the guards and escape from the courtroom.
