The Complicated Casualty Of Kosovo

RFE/RL's Balkan Service reports that the man killed when someone threw a grenade into a protest in the ethnically divided city of Mitrovica, in Kosovo, was Mehsud Dekovic.

Our service also notes that Serbian President Boris Tadic expressed his condolences and called the incident an attempt to provoke Serbia.

But the Serbian president's statement also failed to identify Dekovic by name.

A coincidence, perhaps. But someone from our service noted that it certainly complicates Tadic's spin on events that the victim who died in the attack was a Bosniak from the Bosnjacke Mahala neighborhood of Mitrovica.

About This Blog

Written by RFE/RL editors and correspondents, Transmission serves up news, comment, and the odd silly dictator story. While our primary concern is with foreign policy, Transmission is also a place for the ideas -- some serious, some irreverent -- that bubble up from our bureaus. The name recognizes RFE/RL's role as a surrogate broadcaster to places without free media. You can write us at transmission+rferl.org
