Elsewhere in Helmand, the NATO-led international force (ISAF) said one man was killed and two children injured by another roadside bomb explosion.
In the southern Uruzgan Province, one police officer was killed and three were injured by a improvised explosive device.
And along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, in Kandahar Province, a suicide bomber riding a motorcycle wounded a police officer and two civilians.
The attacks came as newly elected French President Francois Hollande was in Afghanistan's northeastern Kapisa Province to visit French troops.
