Deadly Suicide Bombing Strikes Afghanistan's Jalalabad

Two police officers and one civilian have been killed when a suicide car bomber detonated his vehicle at a police station in the Afghan eastern province of Nangarhar.

Officials said several other officers and civilians were reported injured in the blast on the morning of October 12 in the provincial capital, Jalalabad.

The city is situated on a key route between the Pakistani border region and Afghan capital, Kabul.

It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the bombing, but Taliban and allied Islamist extremists have carried out similar attacks previously.

The attack came as U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry visited Kabul for talks with President Hamid Karzai on a new U.S.-Afghan security pact.
