U.S. and EU ambassadors to Ukraine have visited jailed former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko at a hospital in the eastern city of Kharkiv, where she is receiving treatment for back problems.
U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt and EU Ambassador Jan Tombinski said after the visit on October 16 that they discussed the EU association and free-trade agreement that Ukraine hopes to sign in Vilnius next month.
They said they also discussed the work of a European Parliament monitoring mission that is looking into Tymoshenko's case.
Tymoshenko was sentenced to seven years in prison in 2011 for abuse of office in a case widely seen as politically motivated. EU governments have linked her release to the signing of the association agreement with Kyiv.
