Yerevan, 31 March 1997 (RFE/RL) - Armenia's presidential spokesman, Levon Zurabian, told a news conference today that Russia and Armenia are preparing a new agreement of friendship and partnership.
Zurabian called it a "big, political agreement."
He said it would replace the current agreement in place and take Russian and Armenian ties to a new, higher level.
Zurabian dismissed suggestions Armenia intends to join a new union of Russia and Belarus. Zurabian said Armenia has its own way of strengthening its relationship with Russia.
