A Baku Resident Fights To Save Her Home -- Armed With An Ax

Homeowners staged an angry protest on July 31 against the demolition of their homes in Baku's central Xutor area. One resident, Tunzala Azadaliyeva, armed with an ax, climbed onto an excavator and threatened the driver in a desperate bid to save her home. Azadaliyeva then fainted and was moved away by police. Thousands of homes have been demolished in Baku in recent years as the government implements an urban reconstruction plan involving new roads, parks, shopping centers, and sports facilities.
