MONDAY, January 3:

Pakistan: Pakistan's Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani holds talks with opposition leaders in a bid to avert a political crisis after a key party left the ruling coalition.


TUESDAY, January 4:

Afghanistan/Pakistan: Afghanistan's High Peace Council holds talks with Pakistan's leadership as part of an effort to find a diplomatic solution to the nearly decade-old Taliban insurgency.


WEDNESDAY, January 5:

Afghanistan: Italian Minister of Defense Ignazio la Russa visits Afghanistan.

Iran/Iraq: Iran's acting Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi visits Iraq to boost bilateral ties between the two neighbors.

Russia: Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov visits Iturup, the largest island in the Southern Kuriles.
