Alleged Drone Attack Kills At Least 3 In NW Pakistan

MIR ALI, Pakistan -- An alleged U.S. drone strike has killed at least three people in Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal district.

Residents in the village of Khushali Natasi, near the district capital, Mir Ali, told RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal that the attack was carried out there early on January 10.

Intelligence sources confirmed the strike also injured two suspected militants and destroyed what was said to be a militant compound.

Pakistani media reports say four people may have been killed.

There is no information about whether any prominent Taliban or Al-Qaeda figures were hit.

Since January 1, RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal correspondents have counted six drone strikes in the tribal areas of North Waziristan and South Waziristan.

Prominent Taliban leader Maulvi Nazir was killed in one of the attacks.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
