English, Ukrainian Soccer Fans Clash


English and Ukrainian soccer fans have clashed in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. Three English fans were hospitalized.

Police say the fight, involving 40 English fans and more than 20 Ukrainians, broke out after the two sides traded insults in a cafe on the night of September 8. According to eyewitnesses, the English fans were struck with glass bottles. Some attackers also reportedly had knives.

The incident occurred before the Ukraine-England 2014 World Cup qualifying match on September 10.

England tops Group H, with 15 points, ahead of Montenegro on goal difference. Ukraine is third, with 14 points.
