EULEX Launches Crackdown On Organized Crime In Kosovo

The European Union's police mission in Kosovo launched a major operation against organized crime on April 27.

Local media reports said the crackdown included the issuing of an arrest warrant for a lawmaker from Kosovo’s governing party.

Police also carried out searches at bars and restaurants allegedly managed by criminal organizations.

The European Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) was leading the operation with help from Kosovo police.

Neither EULEX nor Kosovo police would confirm whether the lawmaker had been arrested, saying only that he was on a list of 51 people in senior public posts -- including judges and city officials -- who were being sought.

Based on reporting by AP, Reuters, and AFP

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
