Five Reported Dead As Kurdish Rebels Attack Turkish Police

Five people, including three civilians, have been killed after Kurdish rebels attacked local police buildings in southeastern Turkey.

Turkish security officials quoted by state television said two of the dead were a soldier and a policeman, adding that 10 soldiers and policemen were wounded during the raid in the Semdinli district of Hakkari, in southeastern Anatolia.

The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), listed as a terrorist group by Ankara and much of the international community, took up arms in Kurdish-majority southeast Turkey in 1984, sparking a conflict that has claimed about 45,000 lives.
