German police say 25,000 people have taken to the streets of Dresden to protest against what they call the “Islamization” of Germany – defying calls by political leaders to call off the protest as a mark of respect for the victims of the Paris terror attacks. A minute’s silence was held, and many protestors wore black bands, but organizers from the “Pegida” movement insisted they were not seeking to misuse the attack for political purposes. They were opposed by a smaller counter-demonstration which tried to block their path through the city.(RFE/RL)
