India says it wants more answers from the United States after an American navy ship in the Gulf opened fire on a small fishing boat, killing one Indian citizen and injuring three others.
An External Affairs Ministry spokesman said on July 17 that India plans to "stay in regular touch with U.S. and United Arab Emirates authorities" to learn the full facts about the incident in waters off Dubai on July 16.
Earlier, U.S. officials said the fishing boat had ignored warnings and approached at a high speed while the U.S. ship was refueling.
The Pentagon has been concerned about attacks by small boats since 2000, when Al-Qaeda used a small craft loaded with explosives to attack the destroyer "U.S.S. Cole" in the Yemeni port of Aden.
