Iran Holds Military Maneuvers

Iran's official news agency says the country's military has concluded a one-day exercise in the center of the country.

IRNA reports said the chief of Iran's ground forces, General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan, described the scope of the drill as testing Iran's readiness to confront "global arrogance" -- a reference to the United States -- and improving the capabilities of the forces.

He said jet fighters took part in successful maneuvers, and new weapons were tested.

The exercise was held in Isfahan Province, which hosts Iran's uranium-enrichment and conversion facilities.

The one-day drill, held annually since 1987, coincided with nuclear talks between Iran and world powers in Baghdad.
