TEHRAN -- Iranian media reports say President Hassan Rohani has nominated three candidates for cabinet posts to replace nominees who were rejected by the parliament.

Iranian State TV said on October 20 that Rohani named Reza Faraji Dana, Reza Salehi Amiri, and Ali Asghar Fani to fill the Science, Research, and Technology; Sports and Youth; and Education Ministry portfolios, respectively.

Shortly after Rohani's inauguration in August, lawmakers in the country's conservative-dominated parliament criticized his cabinet choices for their alleged ties to the opposition, Western educations, or supposed lack of experience. Parliament, however, has rejected only three of 18 nominees.

The parliament will debate the new nominations next week, and observers say the confirmations could follow promptly.
