The detained Iranian opposition politician Ebrahim Yazdi is due to go on trial on March 12, his lawyer told RFE/RL's Radio Farda.

Yazdi, the head of the banned Iran Freedom Movement, was arrested in October in the city of Isfahan and transferred to Tehran's Evin prison.

His lawyer, Mohammad Ali Dadkhah, told Radio Farda his client faces charges of "establishing the Freedom Movement," "propaganda against the nation," and "acting against national security."

He said the court appearance is scheduled for the morning of March 12 at branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court.

Dadkhah said his client was not among the founders of the Freedom Movement.

The elderly Yazdi was foreign minister in the first Iranian government after the 1979 Islamic Revolution. He was previously detained in December 2009 but was later released to have open-heart surgery.
