Iraqi Car Bombs Kill At Least Nine; Targeted Sunni Lawmaker Escapes Uninjured

The head of the Iraqi capital's provincial council has escaped an assassination attempt when a car bomb hit his convoy.

Police say the September 15 attack on Riyadh al-Adhadh did not injure the Sunni lawmaker.

But it killed three other people and wounded four.

It was one of three reported car bombings the same day in Iraq that killed at least nine people.

Explosives in a parked car in the mostly Shi’ite city of Karbala killed four and injured 25.

In Kut, another Shi’ite-dominated city, a car bomb exploded near a group of food stalls where construction workers were gathered, killing two and wounding 14.

On September 14, a suicide bomber at a funeral near Mosul killed 27 people and wounded dozens.

Violence in the past week has killed more than 150 people.
