Afghan President Hamid Karzai held talks with Qatari leaders in Doha on March 31 to discuss possible peace talks with the Taliban.
Qatar's state news agency QNA reported that Karzai met with senior Qatari officials, including the emir Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, but did not provide details of the meeting.
Karzai's office said last week that he would discuss the opening of a political office for the Taliban.
Karzai had previously opposed a Qatar venue for peace talks, fearing Kabul would be frozen out of any negotiations involving the Islamist group and the United States.
The militants have refused to have direct contact with Karzai, calling him a Western puppet.
The United Nations this week issued another call for the Taliban to come to the negotiating table.
Karzai's two-day visit ended on March 31.
