Kazakh Customs Service Detains Russian National With 76,500 Euros


Customs officers in Kazakhstan's largest city, Almaty, have detained a Russian citizen with a significant amount of undeclared hard currency.

Kazakhstan’s Customs Service said on May 6 that the man was detained at Almaty International Airport after customs officers found 76,500 euros in his luggage.

The amount had not been declared in the customs declaration. The suspect was detained while trying to leave Almaty for Georgia's capital, Tbilisi.

Investigations have been launched into a suspected attempt to illegally transfer hard currency.
