Kosovar Vote Results Confirmed, Setting Deadline For New Government

Election officials in Kosovo on June 26 confirmed the results of recent parliamentary elections, setting a deadline for a new government to be formed.

If no one challenges the results before the end of June 27, parliament will have one month -- until July 27 -- to convene.

The prime minister-designate will then have 15 days to form a government that receives majority backing in the 120-seat parliament.

Outgoing Prime Minister Hashim Thaci’s Democratic Party of Kosovo came in first with 30 percent of the vote, winning 37 seats.

The opposition Democratic League of Kosovo came in second with 30 seats and third was the Vetevendosje (Self-Determination) party with 16 seats.

Fourth was the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo with 11 seats.

The fifth party, NISMA, will have six seats, and ethnic minorities will take 20 seats.
