BISHKEK -- A Kyrgyz national who is on a U.S. list of global drug kingpins has been extradited to Bishkek from the United Arab Emirates.

Supreme Court spokeswoman Ainura Toktosheva told RFE/RL on December 10 that Kamchybek Kolbaev was arrested upon his arrival in the Kyrgyz capital on December 8.

Bishkek's Birinchi Mai district court later ordered his pretrial detention until January 8.

Toktosheva said Kolbaev was charged with kidnapping, robbery, organization of a criminal group, illegal drug trafficking, and illegal weapons possession.

The United States added the 38-year-old Kolbaev to a list of major global drug-trafficking suspects last year.

Bishkek had been working on Kolbaev's extradition from the United Arab Emirates since 2010.

Kyrgyz authorities say Kolbaev had ties with ousted President Kurmanbek Bakiev's relatives.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
