Three Killed, Scores Hurt In Afghan Suicide Attack

  • RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan

Officials in Afghanistan’s eastern Maidan Wardak Province say three people have been killed and scores more injured in a suicide car-bomb blast.

Ghullam Farooq Mukhles, the head of Wardak health department, told RFE/RL’s Radio Free Afghanistan that up to 90 people were wounded in the incident.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the morning bombing, which struck the provincial capital, Maidan Shar.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the blast was carried out to avenge the Afghan government's execution on November 21 of four Taliban detainees in Kabul.

Officials are quoted as saying the explosion occurred near a facility where Afghan police and soldiers are trained.
