Authorities Report Suspected Militants Killed In Daghestan


Authorities in Russia say that seven suspected Islamist militants have been killed in a special operation in the capital of the North Caucasus republic of Daghestan.

Officials said that among the dead was Makhmud Aliyev, who was recently named head of the Makhachkala militant group and 26-year-old Zaira Aliyeva, the widow of a previously killed militant who may have been preparing to carry out a suicide attack.

The security operation at a house in the city has concluded and investigators are searching the scene.

Several weapons have reportedly been found in the ruins of the house.
