Moldovan Prime Minister Lurie Leanca has expressed "profound" concern over the turmoil in Ukraine.
Speaking at a joint press conference with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Washington on March 3, Leanca said Moldova had its own challenge over the breakaway region of Transdniester.
Kerry pledged continued U.S. support for Moldova, adding that Leanca was "leading a transformation" in his country.
Leanca said at a later appearance at the Atlantic Council that if there wasn't a strong response to Russia's incursion in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin would think that the "fait accompli" policy was the right policy to pursue.
Moldova is expected to sign an Association Agreement with the European Union later this year.
