Pakistan’s Air Force said on November 22 that one of its jets has crashed in southern Pakistan, killing the pilot.

Air Commodore Tariq Mahmood said the French-built Mirage training jet was on a "routine night operational training mission" when it crashed in the Gadap area on the outskirts of the port city of Karachi.

The pilot was identified as Squadron Tanveer Ahmed.

Mahmood said there was no loss of civilian life or property damage reported on the ground.

Authorities said they suspect the cause of the crash was a technical fault in the aircraft.

Police say witnesses reported seeing the jet on fire in the air before it crashed.
