Iran Detains Member Of Nuclear Negotiation Team

Iran says it has detained a member of its negotiation team with world powers on suspicion of spying.

Judiciary spokesman Gholamhosein Mohseni Ejehi said the suspect was released on bail after a few days in jail but is still under investigation, state media reported on August 28.

Ejehi described the unidentified individual as a "spy who had infiltrated the nuclear team."

He was responding to a question about a lawmaker's allegation that a member of the negotiation team with dual citizenship had been arrested on espionage charges.

Local media reported that authorities detained a dual Iranian-Canadian national, Abdolrasoul Dorri Esfahani, who was a member of a team working on lifting economic sanctions under one of the main negotiators for last year's nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.

The agreement, which is opposed by hard-liners, gave Iran relief from most international sanctions in return for curbing its nuclear program.
