Three staffers from the Bishkek bureau of RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service won second place in a BBC-sponsored competition for their documentary film on the plight of street children in Kyrgyzstan. The awards were given to the documentaries which best addressed issues related to women's and children's human rights in Central Asia.

Azattyk TV producer Bubukan Dosalieva, moderator Eleonora Kulenbekova and cameraman and editor Mirlan Toktaliev accepted the award.

First prize was given to a documentary entitled "Behind the Wall," about the fate of women accused of murder, which was produced by the small private cable TV company Raketa (in Bishkek).

The project "Mobilization of mass media outlets in support of women's and children's rights" was organized by BBC's World Service, in cooperation with the European Commission's project to support democracy and human rights.
