Russia is planning to hold a two-day competition next week for its Paralympic squad banned from Rio, the country's Paralympic Committee head has said.

R-Sport news agency quoted Vladimir Lukin as saying a series of tournaments for the country's Paralympic athletes are to be held on September 7-8 at training bases in the Moscow region.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has barred the entire Russian Paralympic team from competing in Rio, after an investigation found that Moscow ran a state-sponsored sports doping program.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport last week dismissed an appeal against the ban, and Russia has appealed to a Swiss court against the ruling.

And Switzerland's highest court rejected on August 31 the Russian Paralympic Committee's request for an interim ruling overturning the ban, saying the body did not demonstrate it had fulfilled all its obligations to anti-doping rules.

The Rio Paralympics runs from September 7-18.

Russia's Olympic squad narrowly escaped a total ban from the Rio Olympics, which ended on August 21, but nearly 120 Russian athletes were barred from competing over doping allegations.

Based on reporting by R-Sport and AFP

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
