A prominent Kazakh-born Russian kickboxer of Tatar origin, Musa Musalaev, has been shot dead near his home in southern Germany.

Germany's Augsburge Allgemeine newspaper reported on November 22 that a masked attacker shot Musalaev on November 18 in the town of Neu-Ulm.

Witnesses told police the attacker fled the murder scene in a car driven by another man.

Investigators were searching for possible links to the April killing of another Kazakh-born Russian kickboxer who was shot dead in Germany's southwestern city of Bietigheim-Bissingen in the state of Baden-Württemberg.

No arrests have been made in either case.

Musalaev, known as the "Prince of Tatarstan" was born in 1979 in Kazakhstan's western city of Atyrau.

He won several world titles in mixed martial arts competitions.

Musalaev had been living in Germany since 2013.
