Russia, Ukraine Agree On New Gas Supply Deal

Russia has agreed to resume gas supplies to Ukraine under a deal reached late on September 25 with the European Union.

European Energy Commissioner Maros Sefcovic tweeted the news, calling the agreement a “major achievement.”

In July, Russia gas giant Gazprom halted gas supplies to Ukraine after the breakdown of talks between Moscow and Kyiv.

Ukraine transports 15 percent of the gas consumed in Europe, and its reserves are running low since Gazprom turned off the tap.

Based on reporting by AFP, dpa, and TASS

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
