Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has returned home after he underwent cardiac surgery in London.

The 66-year-old was greeted by his colleagues and family members when he landed in his hometown of Lahore in eastern Pakistan on July 9, nearly 50 days after he left the country.

It was second time in five years that Sharif underwent a major procedure on his heart. A surgery earlier in 2011 resulted in further complications.

Sharif had left Pakistan among opposition calls that he resign because family members were named as holders of offshore bank accounts, according to documents leaked from the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca.

Sharif has said he is ready to face investigation, and defended his financial record in a speech in parliament.

Pakistan's main opposition parties have said that they will start a fresh campaign against the premier to pressure him to resign.
